Los atropellos son la causa m\u00e1s importante de la mortalidad no-natural en el mochuelo en Espa\u00f1a. Todos los atropellos occurieron de noche. Las tasas de mortalidad son menores en las v\u00edas iluminadas. El mochuelo es atropellado con m\u00e1s frecuencia en verano debido a la alta vulnerabilidad durante la fase de dispersi\u00f3n despu\u00e9s de que los polluelos hayan dejado el nido. Se dieron m\u00e1s muertes en zonas con vegetaci\u00f3n de menos de 1m de altura porque no hab\u00eda posaderos adecuados y los individuos descansaban en la misma calzada de la carretera. Por otro lado, la presencia de \u00e1rboles en las proximidades de la v\u00eda (<20m) fue relacionada con un descenso de la mortalidad en la carretera, siendo m\u00e1s favorable la vegetaci\u00f3n con una altura entre 1 y 3m. La mayor mortalidad se encontr\u00f3 en las carreteras con una elevada velocidad de veh\u00edculos y con mayores intensidades de tr\u00e1nsito.
