Uncapped tubular poles along high-speed railway lines act as pitfall traps...
Man-made ecosystems, such as those associated with transport infrastructure, are common worldwide, offering both opportunities and risks to wildlife. Thus, it is essential to... -
Testing pole barriers as feasible mitigation measure to avoid bird vehicle...
Numbers of bird vehicle collisions (BVCs) exceed several millions per year per country in Europe and North America. However, in contrast with the advances achieved in reducing... -
On the identification of mortality hotspots in linear infrastructures.
One of the main tasks when dealing with the impacts of infrastructures on wildlife is to identify hotspots of high mortality so one can devise and implement mitigation measures.... -
The Alpine marmot (Marmota marmota L.) in the Spanish Pyrenees.
The authors state that infrastructures have hampered the marmot (Marmota marmota) expansion in the Pyrenees. This idea is based on the results of French studies which reported... -
A global assessment of the impact of scavengers in roadkill persistence.
There is a higher co-occurrence of scavenger species and road density in areas of Central Europe and North America, as well as many regions across the globe on a finer-scale.... -

Improvements in high-speed rail network environmental evaluation and...
High Speed Rail (HSR) in Spain began in 1992 and curently has a network of about 3400 km. In this 25-year period, accessibility has progressively increased, and its spatial... -
Photoactive roadways: determination of CO, NO and VOC uptake coefficients...
This work reports uptake coefficients and by-product yields of ozone precursors onto two photocatalytic paving materials (asphalt and concrete) treated with a commercial TiO2... -
Do the size and shape of spatial units jeopardize the road mortality-risk...
We aimed to evaluate the role of spatial units with different shapes and sizes on road-kill modeling for small vertebrate species. We used the road-kill records of two reptiles,... -
How do alien plants distribute along roads on oceanic islands? A case study...
Islands are paradigms of the pervasive spread of alien plants, but little work has been done assessing pattern and cause of the distribution of such plants in relation to roads... -
Spatio-temporal changes of road traffic noise pollution at ecoregional scale.
Noise pollution is a pervasive factor that increasingly threatens natural resources and human health worldwide. In particular, large-scale changes in road networks have driven... -
Roadkill risk and population vulnerability in European birds and mammals.
Roads represent a threat to biodiversity, primarily through increased mortality from collisions with vehicles. Although estimating roadkill rates is an important first step, how... -
Are motorways potential stressors of roadside wood mice (Apodemus...
Linear infrastructures represent one of the most important human impacts on natural habitats and exert several effects on mammal populations. Motorways are recognized as a major... -
The ecology of rural roads: effects, management, and research.
The ecology of rural roads: effects, management, and research. -
Heterogeneous road networks have no apparent effect on the genetic structure...
Roads are widely recognized to represent a barrier to individual movements and, conversely, verges can act as potential corridors for the dispersal of many small mammals. Both... -
Factors affecting culvert use by vertebrates along two stretches of road in...
A major target for environmental managers when trying to minimise the road-barrier effect on wildlife is to improve permeability to animal movements. Previous studies have... -
